Senior Citizens Advisory Commission

Under Ord. No. 93-24 (amended 3-30-93), the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission was created with pre-defined mission:

  • Established; Composition. Within the department of aging, there shall be an advisory senior citizens commission consisting of seven members to be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the council. The term of each member shall be three years commencing on the first day of January, except that of those first appointed three shall be for a term of one year, two for a term of two years and two for a term of three years.
  • Duties of the Commission. The commission shall:

a.       Serve as a liaison between local elderly residents and the township government, in order to facilitate communication and coordination between residents and township services and officials.

b.      Work with the Middlesex County and state officials on aging in order to better coordinate township, county and state efforts.

c.       Review pending, as well as newly passed state and federal legislation concerning the elderly in order to advise the township of progress or financial or technical assistance, for which the township should seek active participation.

d.      Initiate and develop specific projects to assist the needs of elderly residents within the township, such as a telephone “help line” and car pools to bring residents to available facilities, services, etc.
